Interest rates are on the rise in Canada and the United States with policy makers adapting to increasing inflation by accelerating the normalization of interest rates from COVID all time lows.

The deputy governor of the Bank of Canada Sharon Kozicki hinted Friday that a half-percentage-point interest rate increase may be on the table for the central bank’s upcoming rate decision in mid-April.

Banks have already begun increasing their rates with many lenders forecasting above 4% rates for their 5 year fixed rate products as soon as next week.
